Pros

  • Simple voice recording has never been so...simple
  • App includes the ability to search for recordings

Cons

  • Ugly design doesn't do the app any favors
  • Recordings are limited to 60 minutes before they fail to save
  • App hasn't been updated in years

Voice Recorder is a simple audio recording app for Android smartphones and tablets. If you search the Google Play Store, you'll encounter dozens of similar apps. This particular option works well due to its simplicity. Users won't encounter bugs or glitches while using the app, which means audio recording just works. Voice Recorder has been around for years and is supported by all current versions of Android.

Nothing Complicated About Using The App

Launching Voice Recorder gives users a simple menu with a big record button. When that button is pressed, the phone or tablet begins recording audio. Unsurprisingly, pressing that button again stops the recording and saves it to the device. Users are able to save files with custom names, which is a useful feature. The app includes a decent searching feature that searches by file name or date of recording.

Good Performance, Minor Problems

During regular use, the app tends to perform well despite not being updated since 2014. Starting and stopping recordings work as intended without any problems. Rarely will users encounter random force closes or lost recordings. However, one issue comes about while recording longer audio clips. Audio files will record and save up to the 60 minute mark and not a second longer.

As soon as the recording surpasses 60 minutes, the recording will stop, and the file will cease to exist. It's an annoying, predictable problem, but most users won't record anything that long. Perhaps the only other issue with Voice Recorder is how bad the entire user interface looks. Simply put, the app is incredibly ugly and sports a weird aesthetic no one will find pleasing. This isn't the prettiest audio recording app.

Is this app worth downloading?

Smartphones and tablets nowadays tend to include an audio recording app by default. Most users will find the stock recording app more useful than this option. Plus, they won't have to download an app if one is already available out of the box. Voice Recorder performs well at recording audio, but that's all the app does. Other features and extras are non-existent, and not all users will like the simplicity.

Plus, aesthetics may prove to be a major deal breaker here.

Record audio in an instant with the Voice Recorder application.

Voice Recorder for Android is a simple audio application that harkens back to the days of old-school tape recorders. Visually, the application is simple. It has a single record button and a timer. Deeper in, users can adjust settings and even schedule recordings to start automatically.

To provide easy access to the recorder, the application comes with a widget. Users can access the functions of the application directly on the widget to start recording quickly. Saved recordings can be found through a search function, shared via email, or set as a ringtone.
